Some inside sources suggest that Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming in 2015 (despite official denials of that window), but we’re not getting our hopes up until we hear something a little more official. According to the game’s director, that more official update may not be arriving until November 2015.
The game’s director, Tetsuya Nomura, spoke to Famitsu (translated by Gematsu) about the upcoming Dissidia Final Fantasy game for arcade, but also offered a brief update on the development of Kingdom Hearts 3 while he was chatting:
As many fans suspected, it sounds like the game’s development is progressing more slowly than initially planned. If the next big news comes in November at D23 Japan, then it seems like we made the right decision leaving the game off of our Most Anticipated Games of 2015 list. Obviously, the Kingdom Hearts community would rather wait and get a high quality game than see this one rushed out, so the slow development may be a good thing in the long run.
The second part of Nomura’s quote offers the first hint that we’ve heard about a new mobile game for the series. Again, it sounds like we won’t get any more details until D23, but with Nintendo on its way to mobile devices as well, there may be some very high quality games in the app store by 2016.
During the interview, the game director also offered some small updates on the Final Fantasy project:
It’s exciting to know that the game’s roster is still filling out and we look forward to finding out what other classic franchise characters will make an appearance.
Are you disappointed to hear that we won’t get Kingdom Hearts 3 news until November or did you expect a long, slow development timeline for this sequel? Let us know in the comments.
Kingdom Hearts 3 has no official release date yet.
