There was also a road map shown briefly at the start of the video, showing what Kingdom Hearts’ “second phase” will look like. We can see the Re:mind DLC has the first spot, with the mobile game Union χ [CROSS] coming next, and that’s followed by Melody of Memory. There are also two empty spots on the chart, meaning there are at least a couple of other titles in the Disney/Square Enix franchise left to be announced. Floating words like “three new stories” and “six new playable characters” appear, but it’s unclear what that means exactly.

Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory

Memory of Melody is an entirely new game in the series, bringing Sora, Donald and Goofy through the many lands of Disney and beyond—including the homes of Xbox, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch users. The trailer featured Hercules, Destiny Islands, and Aladdin maps that should keep any fan of the franchise excited. There are also snippets of the Gummi spaceship road, showing us other worlds like Alice in Wonderland, Traverse Town and Nightmare Before Christmas.

Over 140 tracks will be available in the first rhythm game in the series and it will also allow for online multiplayer and have “four different playstyles,” according to a translation of the Japanese website. It’s unclear what those tracks will be because Disney might not let Square Enix use its most famous songs. The last time we had a full musical section in the franchise was the “Under the Sea” portion of Kingdom Hearts 2.

Like every piece of Kingdom Hearts, there will be a storyline that players may get confused about. Kairi, the third member of the Destiny Island trio, features heavily in the trailer and will go on a mission to get her memories back. Meeting up with old friends and going face-to-face with the original Ansem, there’s no telling where the story for this game can go. We see Kairi as a young kid when she showed up in Birth by Sleep and her entering a memory capsule in the labs.
